If you want to know how to fix scratched glass with coating, this very guide is for you. I have described all the possible ways to get rid of scratched glasses.

The Process to Fix Scratched Glass with Coating

Mark the scratched area

The Process to Fix Scratched Glass with Coating

Since the scratches are minor, you can lose them easily. And between the process, this can get really irritating. So the best thing would be to mark the area. You can use a marker but the mark might get wiped off when you wash the scratches. In that case, you can use the marker after washing the scratches. On the other hand, you can use the tape, washing won’t be a problem.

Check the Depth of scratch

Before you start the fixing process, check the depth of the scratch. It is necessary because different depth requires different ways. Use your fingernail to detect scratches, move your fingernail and sense the depth.

Remember, if you see high depth, then this guide might not help, you need to go for professional help. For minor scratches, the following ways are enough.

Bring the needed supplies

In the middle of the process looking for items is so irritating. So it is best to gather everything at the beginning, which will help you to work organized. Here is the list of some items that you will need.

  • Good glass cleaner.
  • Cloth (microfiber).
  • Repairing kit.
  • Bowls (2 small sizes).
  • Spatula.
  • Tape.
  • Small drill with rubber polishing wheel.
  • Acrylic nail polish.
  • Toothpaste and baking soda.

Wash the scratch

The first move is to wash the scratches thoroughly. Nothing should be left, otherwise, the operation will be unsuccessful. Clean all the dust particles from scratch. Use the glass cleaner to clean. Spray on the scratch and leave for 5-minutes. After that, rinse it off with the soft cloth.

Fixing with Toothpaste

I will definitely show how to fix scratches with baking soda in the later section. In this section, I am telling how to use toothpaste.

Once you have cleaned the scratches, make sure you dry that completely. Now, with lukewarm water wet the microfiber cloth and then squeeze the cloth properly. All the moisture should be gone from the cloth.

Check the Depth of scratch

Now put a drop of toothpaste on the cloth. Do not overuse toothpaste, that has no benefit. If necessary, you can apply later. So use a very small amount of toothpaste at the beginning.

With the cloth wipe the scratches in a circular motion. And keep repeating the process until the scratches have vanished. Make sure you never use anything abrasive, that can scratch your glass badly. And if you are wiping the glass with the bare hand, make sure you have nothing in your hand that might scratch the glass such as ring, bracelet, etc.

Clean the glass again

When you feel like the scratches are gone, take a fresh cloth. And wet that by lukewarm water. Then squeeze off all the excess water and again clean the scratched area in a circular motion for 30 seconds. The glass should look like new if all the scratches are gone. So this how you can fix scratched glass with toothpaste. Let’s move to the baking soda magic.

Using Baking Soda

Like before, clean the glass properly so that no dirt or debris is left there. And now time makes the baking soda solution. It is not like toothpaste, but you have to make it like that. Very simple.

Take a tablespoon of baking soda and the same amount of water. Mix them up properly, there shouldn’t be any clumps of baking soda.

Now take a clean soft cloth and wrap that tightly around your finger. When using baking soda, make sure to wear gloves, that’s safe. Take a very small amount of mixture and rub the mixture on the scratches in a circular motion. And keep repeating the process until the scratches are gone. Doing it for 1 or 2 minutes should eliminate the scratches.

When you are done rubbing, take another clean soft cloth (Wet with lukewarm water, do not forget to squeeze out excessive water) and wipe the scratched area in a circular motion and make sure that all the baking soda mixture is rinsed off.

Using the Buffing Method

If you have a buffer with metal polish, that will make your job easier. That being said, the buffer’s polishing pad should be ultra-soft. If you can’t manage something soft, don’t use it. Anything hard can make the scenario pretty worse.

Let’s assume you have a soft polishing pad

Wash the scratched area like always and dry that off completely with a clean soft cloth. Put a little amount of toothpaste or baking soda mixture on the polishing pad. And at the beginning t slower speed run the buffer. With the buffer, the scratches should be gone faster. However, do not overuse the buffer, that can hurt the glass. You can use also a ceramic coating that makes it more glossy to look a new car.

Conclusion
So this is exactly how to fix scratched glass with coating. I have mentioned a couple of times but saying again. When the scratches are deep, these remedies are not going to work. You have to seek a professional’s help.

For minor scratches, these ways are good. That being said, be very careful when using the buffer. The polishing pads should be very soft and do not use the buffer for very long. Otherwise, you will end up creating more problems.
