Palmetto Clean Fuels (PCF) Coalition held an electric vehicle (EV) 101 stakeholder event on June 22, 2017, at the Proterra manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC. A handful of stakeholders attended to learn more about EVs, with attendees from state agencies, local governments, private industry, and schools and technical colleges.
The event began with a brief overview of PCF from co-coordinators Maeve Mason and Landon Masters. Cornelius Willingham with Nissan Motor Company then explained what personal occupancy EVs are, how EVs have evolved, and the benefits of converting to EVs. Whitney Beers Schmidt, Director for ChargePoint in the Carolinas and Tennessee then discussed how EV supply equipment (EVSE) or chargers work and where to find them in South Carolina. The event concluded with a presentation by Eric McCarthy, Senior Vice President of Government Relations, Public Policy and Legal Affairs for Proterra sharing his thoughts on transit trends and Proterra’s mission.
The second half of the day was devoted to a tour of the Proterra facility, including a trip to the manufacturing floor as well as the charging stations on site. Attendees saw first-hand how Proterra buses are manufactured and were able to ask specific questions about how Proterra is changing the transit industry.
PCF would like to thank everyone in attendance and the speakers who helped to make the EV 101 event a success.
