Older on-road, nonroad, and marine diesel engines still in operation have significantly more emissions than today’s modern diesel engines. DERA projects target those older engines for early replacement or retrofit to reduce the impact on the environment. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administers the State Clean Diesel Grant Program which allocates funds to participating states to implement grant and loan programs for clean diesel projects. South Carolina now has $310,000 available for diesel emissions reduction projects in our State. The projects will reduce emissions in the most cost-effective manner through engine repowers, equipment and exhaust retrofits, or equipment replacements. We are expecting to fund applicants who can leverage approximately 75% cost share with 25% grant funding, or better. A lower percentage of grant funding requested increases an applicant’s ability to be funded. This program improves air quality while creating economic investment in South Carolina.
Applications submitted before January 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM will receive primary consideration. Applications received after that time will be considered as funding is available. The Request For Proposals (RFP), application information for the 2016 State DERA Grant Program, and a list of projects previously funded in South Carolina under similar DERA grants, along with additional information for applying, can be found at http://www.scdhec.gov/DERA.
