National Dump the Pump Day

Date: June 18, 2020

On the third Thursday in June, National Dump the Pump encourages people to ride public transportation instead of driving single-occupancy vehicles. With COVID-19, many transit agencies have put restrictions on service intervals and may have other precautionary measures in place to ensure rider safety, so be sure to contact your local transit agency before riding.

Riding public transit is an economical way to save money, particularly when gas prices are high. Many Americans use local public transportation to commute to and from work, school, for shopping and errands, and even to make family visits. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Transit Savings Report, the annual savings of switching a daily commute by car to public transportation is, on average, more than $9,700 a year.

National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by APTA and public transportation systems across the country.
